Massachusetts General Law requires that any residential property being sold or otherwise transferred from one party to another passes an inspection of its smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. You can apply and pay for an inspection here. The Fire Prevention Office will then contact you to schedule your inspection.
The property must comply with the Fire Code requirements in effect at the time of construction, or of any major renovation. Download a flowsheet explaining these requirements for various years. And as always, don’t hesitate to contact the Fire Prevention Office with any questions.
